Online Promotion Strategies

Compared to marketing and promotion, content creation is easy.

For content creators, promoting content is a key task without which success is limited. In this post we’ll highlight a few promotion techniques which can help your content gain more exposure:

  1. Content: While it may sound simple, good content is the key online promotion. When people like an online video, they forward it to their friends. Additionally, behind-the-scenes content is extremely popular with fans. Creating good content is the easiest way to increase online marketability.
  2. Distribution: People consume content in different ways. Some view it on their computers. Others on their mobile device. As a content creator, it is essential to have your content in as many places as possible. Companies like Blip.TV and TubeMogul make it possible to distribute your content cost effectively.
  3. Community: Online media is a two-way street. Unlike traditional media, consumers and fans should be able to communicate with you. The easiest way to do this is to setup an online forum on your website. Allow fans to interact between themselves and ask your producers, cast and crew to contribute as well. The greater the interaction, the greater the retention.
  4. Social Media (Facebook): Facebook continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Officially, the site has over 400 million users. Unofficially, that number is considered to be as high as 500 million users. Facebook makes it easy for brands to create ‘Fan’ pages — a destination for fans to interact and support your show. With a promotion budget, you can even setup Facebook campaigns that engage the user on multiple levels.
  5. Social Media (Twitter): Twitter has been successfully adopted by big brands. Companies like Dell generate millions of dollars in revenue every year, thanks to Twitter only promotions. Recently, Amazon also started promoting its ‘Video on Demand’ service by giving away $10 coupons to followers. It’s a great way to introduce new subscribers to a service.

While all these platforms help you broaden your audience, remember that you should always connect with your audience. These platforms will help you do that.

Hi, I am the Marketing Director at HeySpread.
    Thanks for this good article.
That is true, Tubemogul is one service.

But you should really have a look at HeySpread for Professional Video Analytics and Video Distribution – http://bit.ly/5mD1CL. Far cheaper, with exclusive features such as YouClone (copy/paste your YouTube videos to any other platform automatically and in one shot), powerful and user-friendly interface, REST API for an easy and fast white label integration.

“Compared to marketing and promotion, content creation is easy.”

Well, creating just any content is easy I guess, all the link farms are a testament to that, but establishing yourself as a content creator that people trust and value can't really just be a side-effect of good Twitter/Facebook marketing. Sure, we could all re-write press releases and make sure the SEO is good, but I doubt that history will remember that kind of stuff. Truly excellent content has a way of finding an audience. But yes, if you produce mediocre content, then concentrating on marketing is definitely an effective strategy for being taken seriously.

      Hey Geoff,

Good point. Content creation and marketing have an inverse relationship. Good content – less promotion. Bad content – a lot of promotion.

      Thanks,
